SAN FRANCISCO: The 49ers improved to 2-0 on the year with their 27-19 victory over the Lions as a 7-point home favorite. Alex Smith completed just 20-of-31 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. Frank Gore chipped in 89 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown while Vernon Davis caught five passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Crabtree also finished with six catches for 67 yards and Mario Manningham hauled in three receptions for 28 yards. The 49ers are now 2-0 on the year and 2-0 against the spread.
MINNESOTA: One week after beating the Jaguars in dramatic fashion, the Vikings fell victim to Andrew Luck and the Colts in a 23-20 defeat. Christian Ponder completed 27-of-35 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns, but the ground game never got going as Adrian Peterson was held to 60 yards on 16 carries and no touchdowns. Percy Harvin led Minnesota in receptions with 12 for 104 yards, while Michael Jenkins caught five passes for 43 yards and no touchdowns. It was the second time the Vikings , who were three point road favorites versus Indy, failed to cover the spread.
