Jaguars vs. Vikings Week 1 Odds
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (The Spread) – Two teams that are expected to challenge for the cellar of their respective divisions will square off on Sunday when the Vikings host the Jaguars at 1:00PM ET.
JACKSONVILLE: The Jaguars and new head coach Mike Mularkey received a sigh of relief on Sunday when Maurice Jones-Drew ended his 38-day holdout and reported to team headquarters. But Jones-Drew is unlikely to have a significant role on Sunday and Mularkey has already stated that Rashad Jennings will start. While second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert made strides in his development this offseason the Jags will struggle to stay competitive this season.
MINNESOTA: The focus has been on the health of Adrian Peterson this offseason. AP suffered a knee injury last season but he seemingly has been ahead of his recovery all offseason. He should suit up in Week 1 but the Vikings will likely play it safe with their most valuable weapon. Minnesota improved its offensive line during the offseason and second-year signal caller Christian Ponder will make improvements in Year 2. But just like Jacksonville the Vikes will struggle to compete this season, especially in a tough NFC North Division.
ODDS: The Vikings opened as 4.5-point favorites but the spread has dropped to 4 as 52% of the betting public currently favors the underdog Jaguars. The over/under total is currently sitting at 38 points.
TRENDS: The Jaguars are 11-2 against the spread in their last 13 games in Week 1 but they’re just 1-4 ATS in their last five September games. The Vikings are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games on fieldturf but they’re 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 1. The over is 4-1 in the Vikings’ last five home games but the under is 4-0 in the Jaguars’ last four games in September.
