2012 NFL Week 1 Odds & Spread: Patriots favored over Titans

Patriots vs. Titans NFL Week 1 Odds

NASHVILLE, TN (The Spread) – The Patriots will kick off their defense of their AFC title crown when they visit the Titans at 1:00PM ET on Sunday.

NEW ENGLAND: The Patriots are currently favored to win the Super Bowl thanks to the likes of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the easiest schedule of any team in the league. New England upgraded its pass rush during the offseason with the selection of Chandler Jones in the first-round of April’s draft and Brady should enjoy throwing to new receiver Brandon Lloyd. It would appear as though the Pats are set up to walk through the regular season and challenge for yet another Super Bowl.

TENNESSEE: Coach Mike Munchak announced that second-year quarterback Jake Locker will start under center this season. Locker has a big arm and can make plays happen with his legs, but he’s not an accurate quarterback yet and he’s also inconsistent. Hopefully for Tennessee Chris Johnson will have a bounce-back campaign and rookie wideout Kendall Wright will make an immediate impact. (It also wouldn’t hurt if Kenny Britt could stay out of trouble off the field and healthy on it.)

ODDS: The Patriots opened as 7-point favorites but the line has dropped to 5.5 even though 84% of the betting public currently favors New England. The over/under total is sitting at 47 points.

TRENDS: The Patriots are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games on grass and 49-24-3 ATS in their last 76 road games. The Titans, meanwhile, are 4-1 ATS in their last five games in Week 1 and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games in September.
