2012 NFL Week 1 Odds & Spread: Jets favored over rival Bills

Bills vs. Jets Week 1 Odds

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – AFC East rivals clash in Jersey this Sunday when the Jets host the Bills at 1:00PM ET.

BUFFALO: After signing big money free agent Mario Williams, the Bills hope that their defense is significantly improved from a year ago. But Buffalo will only go as far as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick takes them and he faded in the second half last year. The Bills have a solid offensive core in Fred Jackson, Stevie Johnson and C.J. Spiller, but it’s up to Fitzpatrick to limit mistakes and keep the Bills in contention all year.

NEW YORK: The Jets had a rather ridiculous offseason. ESPN cameras were camped outside of training camp in efforts to update viewers on every step Tim Tebow took, even though he’ll back up Mark Sanchez this season. Then the Jets failed to score a touchdown in preseason as the offensive line was consistently a disaster. The defense will once again be a strength under Rex Ryan but the offense could be New York’s undoing this season.

ODDS: The Jets opened as a 6-point favorite but the line has dropped significantly since that point. The Bills are now only a 2.5-point underdog as 64% of the betting public is currently backing Buffalo at the moment. The over/under for this game is currently sitting at 40.5 points.

TRENDS: The Bills are 5-1 against the spread in their last six trips to New York but 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall versus the Jets. The road team is 8-1 ATS in the last nine meetings between these two teams while the underdog is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings.
