2012 Carolina Panthers NFL Regular Season Win Totals & Odds

2012-13 Panthers Season Odds

CHARLOTTE, NC (The Spread) – Thanks to Cam Newton the Carolina Panthers are a team to keep an eye on again this season in the NFL.

Oddsmakers have installed the Panthers as 35/1 long shots to win the 2013 Super Bowl and 18/1 to win the 2013 NFC Championship. Carolina is also 4/1 to win the NFC South Division this season and carry an over/under of 7 for number of total wins in the 2012 NFL regular season.

The Panthers were extremely quiet in free agency this year, choosing instead to focus on the draft. They did sign free agent running back Mike Tolbert, formerly of the Chargers, and lost both Dan Connor (Cowboys) and Geoff Schwartz (Vikings) in free agency.

Speaking of the draft, the Panthers landed Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly with the ninth overall pick and selected Midwestern State guard Amini Silatolu in the second round. IN the fourth they nabbed a pair of Big 12 players in Oklahoma defensive end Frank Alexander and Arkansas receiver Joe Adams, and in the fifth they selected Coastal Carolina cornerback Josh Norman.

If the Panthers are to compete in a stacked NFC South Division than Newton will have to have a repeat performance of his dazzling rookie season. The Panthers have enough weapons on offense to compete with the likes of the Saints and Falcons, but their defense remains a huge question mark – particularly in the secondary. This team will be a tough draw for opponents on a weekly basis but until Carolina adds more talent to its defense the Panthers will be right around the 7-win mark.
