The Saints are 11-5 on the season and 6-2 in road games while the Seahawks are 7-9 overall and 5-3 at home. Seattle won the NFC West Division to get the No. 4 seed while New Orleans is the No. 5 seed and got in with a wild card berth.
Trends show that Seattle is 4-1 against the point spread odds in their last 5 games in January while New Orleans is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com have given the Saints point spread odds of -10 on the road against Seattle. The over/under has been set at 44.5 points. (View Matchup)
Opening odds had the Saints favored by 10.5 points to open the week and the spread climbed to 11 at one point before falling back and closing at 10 points. The over/under opened at 45.5 points and has since dipped back to 44.5.
The Saints are 7-9 against the point spread odds this season and they have split the over/under 8-8 this season. New Orleans lost two of their last three games to end the season and got bad news in terms of injures as running backs Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory were both placed on IR with injuries. The Saints have averaged just 94.9 yards on the ground per game, but they need a reliable rushing attack to keep defenses honest against Drew Brees. Brees has thrown for 4,620 yards and 33 touchdowns on the season, but also has 22 interceptions. Without his two leading rushers, the Saints could have some issues.
Seattle was 7-9 against the point spread odds this season and the Seahawks hit the over in 11 of 16 games. Seattle won just two of its last 7 games, but still found a way to win the West. All 9 of Seattleβs losses this season came by at least 15 points as they scored 310 points on the year but allowed 407. The team won last week against St. Louis with the playoffs on the line with Charlie Whitehurst at quarterback, but the team turns to Matt Hasselbeck this week as he has recovered enough from a hip injury to give it a go. Hasselbeck has thrown for 3,001 yards and 12 touchdowns with 17 interceptions on the season.
In terms of injuries, New Orleans cornerback Malcolm Jenkins is questionable with an ankle injury while Seattle cornerback Kelly Jennings is questionable with a leg injury.
Over 39,200 public bets have been placed on this game with New Orleans getting 62% of the wagers with odds of -10 against Seattle.
