Falcons vs. Panthers Week 14 Odds
CHARLOTTE, NC (The Spread) – NFC South rivals clash on Sunday when the Panthers host the Falcons at 1:00PM ET.
ATLANTA: Mistakes cost the Falcons a potential win last Sunday in Houston when they had two defensive touchdowns called back due to penalties in a 17-10 defeat. The loss dropped Atlanta’s record to 7-5 on the season as the Falcons have now failed to cover the spread in seven of their last 12 games overall. With just four games remaining, Atlanta is two games back of New Orleans in the NFC South so a loss this weekend would be detrimental to the Falcons’ chances of winning the division. What hurts is that they’ll have their top two cornerbacks (Brent Grimes and Kelvin Hayden) out with injuries, while Michael Turner (groin) and Julio Jones (hamstring) continue to be limited by their injuries as well.
CAROLINA: The Panthers may be 4-8 but they’re easily the most dangerous 4-8 team in the league. That’s because Cam Newton continues to wreak havoc on opposing defenses, beating teams with both his arm and his legs. In Carolina’s 38-19 victory last Sunday against Tampa Bay, the rookie quarterback threw for 201 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 54 yards and three scores. The win improved the Panthers’ record to 4-8 overall and 7-5 against the spread.
ODDS: Oddsmakers have installed the Falcons as 3-point favorites over the Panthers for Sunday’s game, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 47 points. Atlanta enters the game with a 7-5 overall record and is 3-3 on the road this year, while Carolina is 4-8 overall and 2-4 at home.
TRENDS: The favorite is 6-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings between these two teams while the home squad is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings as well. The Falcons are 5-1 against the number in their last six games against the Panthers, while the under is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Carolina. That said, the over is 3-1-2 in the last six meetings between these two teams overall.
