2011 NFL Week 1 Point Spread Odds & Over/Under Totals

2011 NFL Week 1 Point Spreads

(The Spread) – Oddsmakers have released the point spreads for Week 1 in the NFL, which kicks off on Thursday, September 8 with a great NFC matchup.

The 2009 Super Bowl champs will take on the defending title winners when the 2011 NFL season opens. The New Orleans Saints will travel to Green Bay to take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, who have opened as 4.5-point favorites over the Saints in Week 1. The over/under total for this potentially high-scoring affair has opened at 46 points.

A battle of NFC playoff teams from a year ago will take place in Chicago on Sunday, September 11 when the Bears host the Falcons at 1:00PM ET. The Falcons, who were the No. 1 seed in the NFC last season, have opened as 2-point road favorites over the Bears, who lost to the Packers in the NFC Championship Game a year ago. The over/under total is only 40.5, so oddsmakers must believe this game has the potential to be low-scoring.

One game that figures to be a shootout is the one in Houston, where the Texans are 2.5-point favorites over Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. The over/under total for this game is currently 46 points after both teams combined for 58 points in Week 1 last year. The host Texans beat the visiting Colts 34-24 in that contest.

One of the most hyped teams in the NFL will be on the road in Week 1 when they Eagles travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams at 1:00PM ET. Philadelphia, which signed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha this offseason, has opened as 5-point favorites over Sam Bradford and the Rams, who figure to be in the playoff mix again this year due to a weak NFC West.

The NFL schedule makers have given fans a treat in Week 1 as the Ravens will host the Steelers in what should be a physical battle from the first whistle. Baltimore has opened as 2.5-point favorites over the defending AFC champion Steelers, who will have a bulls-eye on their backs this season.

There are three nationally televised games in Week 1, starting with the Sunday Night Game between the Cowboys and Jets at 8:20PM ET. Rex Ryan’s squad has opened as 4.5-point favorites over a Cowboys team that figures to be much better than it was a year ago. The Jets, of course, are considering legit Super Bowl contenders after once again making it to the AFC title game last season.

The two opening Monday Night Football games will feature division rivals as the Dolphins (+4.5) host the Patriots at 7:00PM ET and the Broncos (PICK) host the Raiders at 10:15PM ET. The NFL has made it a regular tradition to open with two Monday night games each year now.
