2011 NFL Week 1 Las Vegas Odds
(The Spread) – How have the oddsmakers in Las Vegas set the odds for Week 1 in the NFL?
The Vegas odds do differ from the online books in some games. For example, the point spread for the Steelers-Ravens game in Baltimore has Pittsburgh as a 2.5-point favorite but in Vegas, the Steelers are +3. Obviously that half point makes a big difference for bettors, as it could move the line either on or off the all-important number of “3.”
The Falcons are another team that the Vegas line affects. They’re 2.5-point road favorites versus the Bears online but 3-point favorites in Vegas. Seeing as how Chicago made it to the NFC Championship Game last season, one would think that the Bears will keep the game somewhat close this weekend. With that in mind, getting that extra half point would be huge for Chicago bettors.
The Thursday night tilt between the Saints and Packers remains Green Bay –4 both online and in Vegas. But the Eagles are now 5-point favorites in Vegas for their game against the Rams, as opposed to 4.5-point favorites online. The Lions are also 2-point road underdogs against the Buccaneers in Vegas, but 1-point underdogs online.
Perhaps the only other notable difference between online and Vegas this week is the odds for the Colts-Texans matchup. With Peyton Manning ruled as doubtful for the game, Indianapolis is a 9-point underdog online but an 8.5-point dog in Vegas. Obviously that spread doesn’t make a huge difference though, because it’s higher than the all-important “7” at all books and lower than “10,” which is also an important football number.
