Baltimore Ravens 2011 Season Odds
(The Spread) – Once again the Baltimore Ravens seem ready to make another deep run in the playoffs.
Oddsmakers currently list the Ravens’ odds to win the 2012 Super Bowl at 16/1 and their odds to win the AFC Conference at 15/2. They’re also +115 on the money line to win the AFC North, listed right behind the Steelers who are favored at -105.
The Ravens were active in free agency, signing Ricky Williams (Ravens), Vonta Leach (Texans), Benard Pollard (Texans), and Bryant McKinnie (Vikings) to contracts. They also re-signed defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, linebacker Prescott Burgess and cornerback Chris Carr.
In the draft, the Ravens focused on defense in the first round but then went offense in Rounds 2-4. They were ecstatic when Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith fell to them late in the first round and caught a break in the second round when Maryland receiver Torrey Smith fell all the way to them at No. 26. They added depth to their offenisve line with the selection of Jah Reid (Central Florida) in the third and took another receiver in Tandon Doss (Indiana) in the fourth.
Outlook: There’s no doubt that the Ravens will challenge for another playoff spot in the AFC. Joe Flacco made huge strides in his third season last year and is poised for big things again in 2011. Anquan Boldin was a huge addition last year and only helped to complement Flacco and explosive running back Ray Rice in Baltimore’s offense. The defense was once again stout last season despite many observers believing the unit would suffer a down year. Assuming the Ravens don’t suffer any key injuries, they’ll challenge Pittsburgh again for the AFC North crown and have the talent to reach the Super Bowl.
