Overview: This year’s event is shaping up to be the most unpredictable draft in decades due to the current NFL labor dispute. Usually by this time in April, teams have already addressed specific needs through free agency. But because free agency has been halted this year due to the CBA negotiations (or lack of negotiations), teams don’t know what they will and won’t be able to address outside of the draft.

There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the top pick of the draft. The Carolina Panthers currently hold the No. 1 selection and while the majority of draft observers believe they’ll take quarterback Cam Newton, Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert, Alabama’s Marcell Dareus and LSU’s Patrick Peterson are possibilities as well.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the No. 1 overall pick, the top 5 this year has been extremely difficult to mock. Usually, draft enthusiasts have a good idea what players will go where in the top 4-5 picks, but this year has been a different story. It’s hard to predict what any team will do for sure.
