The Green Bay Packers obviously have the bookmakers’ attention after winning four straight games, including a 48-21 romp over the lifeless Atlanta Falcons in Saturday’s Divisional Round. The Packers may be the No. 6 seed in the NFL but if it weren’t for all the injuries they endured at the beginning of the year, it stands to reason they would have been much higher.
With that in mind, oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Packers a 3-point road favorite over the Chicago Bears in the conference championship round. The Packers have already covered twice as road underdogs the past two weeks, so the oddsmakers might as well flip the script and making them favorites.
While the public will no doubt back Green Bay in this contest, it’ll be interesting to see if sharp bettors will take the home dog. Throughout the season, home underdogs in primetime games usually fair well. And you can’t get more primetime than Championship Sunday.
The over/under total for the Packers-Bears game has opened at 43.5 points. After the show Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler put on in the Divisional Round, one would think that the total won’t stay at that number for very long.
In the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been made 3-point home favorites over the surprising New York Jets, who knocked off the Colts and Patriots in consecutive weeks. This will be a rematch of a regular season game in which the Jets won outright as a 3.5-point underdog, 22-17.
The over/under total in that game was 36 and after the over covered rather easily, oddsmakers have opened the total at 38 for the teams’ rematch this weekend. Also weighing on oddsmakers’ minds in regards to the total was the way the Ravens and Steelers put 55 points on the board when everyone expected that to be a low-scoring affair.
Can the Bears cool the red-hot Packers? Can Rex Ryan’s brash Jets pull off one more upset in order to get to the Super Bowl? Will find out soon enough.
