Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have made Cam Newton and Julio Jones 11/2 favorites to win the 2011 NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award, respectively. A.J. Green has the next best odds at 13/2, while Mark Ingram is 15/2 and Mikel LeShoure is 12/1.

Cam Newton was the first player selected in the 2011 NFL Draft in April, going No. 1 to the Carolina Panthers. Although the lockout has essentially thrown a wrench in the works, Newton is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job in Carolina as a rookie. He’ll battle incumbent Jimmy Clausen, who struggled mightily as a rookie last season for the Panthers.

The Falcons traded a slew of picks to move up into the top 10 and select Julio Jones, the dynamic receiver out of Alabama who turned heads at this year’s scouting combine. Atlanta was desperate to add a playmaker at the wideout position and found one in Jones, who will look great in the Falcons’ offense alongside Roddy White, Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and Tony Gonzalez.

The Cincinnati Bengals selected A.J. Green with the third overall pick in April, and plan to use him right away as a rookie. There’s a ton of uncertainty right now in the ‘Natti, mainly centered around quarterback Carson Palmer and receiver Chad Ochocinco’s future status with the team. One thing that is certain, however, is that Green will have the opportunity to make an impact right away.

Some quarterbacks to keep an eye on outside of Newton are Christian Ponder (14/1), Andy Dalton (15/1), Jake Locker (16/1) and Blaine Gabbert (22/1). Outside of Gabbert, who will likely sit behind David Garrard next year, most of these quarterbacks will have the opportunity to start in 2011. There’s nobody ahead of Ponder right now in Minnesota, although the Vikings could add a veteran free agent once the lockout lifts. Meanwhile, Dalton’s fate in Cincinnati is tied to Palmer’s situation and Locker could have a real chance of starting in Tennessee once Vince Young is released. If any of these QBs has a decent year, they would represent a value given their OROY odds.
