NFL Week 3 Recap
Week 3 in the NFL wasn’t for the home underdogs. Let’s take a look at what teams covered and who didn’t in our NFL Week 3 Betting Recap.
Thus far, away teams are covering 58.70% of the time with a record of 27-19-1. The away favorites are a dazzling 11-5 against the spread (68.75%), while the home underdogs are just 5-11 (31.25%).
49ers lose, but cover
The San Francisco 49ers lost their first game of the season after giving up a last-second touchdown to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but they made some bettors happy by covering the 7-point spread as road underdogs. Outside of the 7-0 lead that the Vikes took in the first quarter, a Niners’ cover was never in question.
Patriots cover for the first time in 2009
The New England Patriots bounced back nicely following their ugly loss to the New York Jets last week when they beat the Atlanta Falcons 26-10 in Foxboro. The Pats easily covered the 4.5-point spread, even though Tom Brady struggled in the first half. New England’s defense held the Falcons scoreless in the second half.
The Lions end their drought
It’s been a long time since Detroit Lion fans had reason to smile. The Lions beat the Redskins 19-14 on Sunday in Detroit, ending their 19-game losing streak, which spanned three seasons. The Lions also covered the 6.5-point spread as home underdogs.
Steelers once again fail to cover
The defending Super Bowl champions have started off the 2009 season by going 1-2 and worse for some bettors, have started 0-3 against the spread. The Cincinnati Bengals shocked the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-20 on a Carson Palmer touchdown pass with under a minute remaining. The Steelers continue to have issues running the ball.
