Could Tannehill’s job be in danger?
MIAMI, FL (The Spread) – Could quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s job really be in jeopardy heading into the 2014 NFL season?
A source told CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora that Tannehill may lack job security entering next season. Despite being the least of a dysfunctional Miami organization’s problems, head coach Joe Philbin wants to push his young quarterback heading into his third season.
“(Philbin) definitely wants to push Tannehill more,” the source told La Canfora. “If he doesn’t see improvement he said he might go to (Matt) Moore at some point. He definitely has a lot of faith in Moore, and they’re paying him a lot of money.”
Regardless of how much the Dolphins are paying Moore, Tannehill remains their best bet to snap a five-year playoff drought. Tannehill was selected with the 8th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and has shown improvement over his first two years. Instead of questioning him, maybe Miami should look into building more around him after he was sacked a league-high 58 times in 2013. Again, Tannehill is the least of the Dolphins’ problems.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Dolphins are a 50/1 long shot to win Super Bowl XLIX next year. They opened with those same odds when the Super Bowl futures were released following Seattle’s win over Denver in New York last week. Clearly oddsmakers don’t have a lot of faith in Philbin turning around the franchise and quite frankly, neither do we.
