Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Sooners are 13.5-point favorites to beat the Red Raiders. The total, meanwhile, sits at 78 points. As of this writing, 57% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Sooners.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech freshman QB Alan Bowman was 32-of-56 for 323 yards with a touchdown and an three interceptions in Saturday’s 40-31 loss to Iowa State. Bowman (6’3/210) finally looked like a true freshman. His mistakes were critical to the way the game played out. Two obvious examples were the pick-six in the third quarter of a tie game and the safety he was forced into with the scored tied and 4:39 left to play. The Cyclones got the ball back and immediately scored a touchdown, icing the thing. To be fair to Bowman, Ames is becoming one of the hardest venues in the nation for opposing quarterbacks to play (Will Grier imploded there a few weeks ago) and Bowman was only just cleared to fly again coming off his collapsed lung.
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma redshirt junior QB Kyler Murray completed 19-of-24 passes for 324 yards with three touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown in a 51-14 victory over Kansas State on Saturday. This could have been an even bigger game if Oklahoma was selfish, but Murray was pulled with the Sooners well in front. It’s his second straight game completing 19-of-24 passes, and he adds his sixth rushing touchdown of the season in the blowout victory. Simply put, there haven’t been many quarterbacks who have played better than the future baseball prospect. The 7-1 Sooners get Texas Tech next Saturday.
Betting Trends
Oklahoma
The Sooners are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games but have covered in eight of their last 11 conference matchups.
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five games versus an opponent with a winning record.
Prediction
The Sooners are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games in Lubbock and the home team has covered the spread in five of the last five meetings between these two teams. Believe it or not, Texas Tech has the better defense in this matchup and the Red Raiders can still put points on the board quickly. The Sooners are explosive but they’ve had defensive problems all year that have yet to be ironed out despite replacing coordinators. I like the home dog playing at night catching two touchdowns.
