OK State vs. Iowa State Prediction
After losing last Saturday in the “Bedlam Game,” will Oklahoma State get off the mat this week? Or is Iowa State a live dog again after thriving in that role all season? Kickoff for this matchup is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.
ODDSMAKERS LIKE: Oklahoma State. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cowboys are 6-point road favorites over the Cyclones, who opened as 7.5-point home underdogs. The total, meanwhile, sits at 60.5 points after hitting the board at 61.
THE PUBLIC LIKES: Iowa State. The public has seen enough Cyclones games over the past month to know that Matt Campbell’s team is a live dog. As of Saturday morning, the Cyclones were received 53% of tickets for this game.
HISTORICAL TRENDS LIKE: The favorite is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between these two teams but the home squad has covered in eight of the last 11 meetings.
WHO WE LIKE: Iowa State. Oklahoma State just suffered a devastaing blow to not only its Big 12 title chances, but also a potential playoff opportunity by losing to Oklahoma last weekend. Now I’m supposed to believe the Cowboys will get off the mat this week after traveling for the third time in four weeks? No thanks.
Iowa State surrendered 524 yards last week in that loss to West Virginia but that should be the exception, not the norm. On the season, the Cyclones are holding opponents to 18.9 points per game and 231.5 and 367.1 yards per contest. And that’s in the Big 12, where offenses thrive.
I can’t pass on Campbell in an underdog role. Iowa State is 8-2 against the spread playing in a revenge spot in a conference tilt and Campbell is 5-1 against the number as a home underdog of five or more points. Given me the home underdog that actually plays defense.
