Military Bowl Temple vs. Wake Forest Predictions 12/27/16

2016 Military Bowl Prediction

Will Temple cover as a double-digit favorite when it takes on Wake Forest in the Military Bowl at 3:30PM ET this afternoon?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Owls are now 11-point favorites over the Demon Deacons after opening as a 13-point favorite when the bowl odds were first released. As for the total, the number hit the board at 41 and that’s where it currently sits at the majority of sports books.

TEMPLE KEY TRENDS: The Owls are a perfect 7-0 against the spread in their last seven games coming off a win of more than 20 points and are also 23-8 against the number in their last 31 games coming off a successful cover. They’re 35-16 at the betting window in their last 51 games overall and have covered in 43 of 63 games following a victory as well.

WAKE FOREST KEY TRENDS: The Demon Deacons have covered in five of their last seven games overall but are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games. They’re also 4-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, are a perfect 4-0 against the number in their last four games in December but are just 2-6 at the betting window in their last eight games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous contest.

OUR PREDICTION: These two teams are heading in opposite directions, with Temple winning seven straight games entering today and Wake Forest losing six of its last eight. The Demon Deacons are going to have issues containing quarterback Phillip Walker and running back Jahad Thomas, who only needs 82 yards against Wake Forest to secure his second straight 1,000-yard season. The Demon Deacon defense will keep this one close for a while but at some point that unit will relent if Wake can’t move the ball offensively. Seeing as how the Demon Deacons rank 125th in total yards, 115th in passing yards, 100th in rushing yards and 123 in points scored this season, I don’t think they’ll be moving the ball much against Temple’s No. 3-ranked defense.
