2016 Foster Farms Bowl Prediction
Is Indiana worth a play as the underdog against Utah in the Foster Farms Bowl at 8:30PM ET tonight?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Utes are 6-point favorites versus the Hoosiers while the over/under currently sitting at 54 points. When the bowl lines were first released, Utah was a 6.5-point favorite and the total for this game was 54, so while the total hasn’t moved, the spread dropped a half point.
INDIANA KEY TRENDS: The Hoosiers are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall and have failed to cover in 14 of their last 18 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. They’re also 1-5 at the betting window in their last six games coming off a win and are winless at 0-4 against the spread in their last four neutral site games.
UTAH KEY TRENDS: The Utes are 6-0 against the spread in their last six games versus Big Ten opponents, are 5-1 against the number in their last six bowl games, and are 4-1 at the betting window in their last five games overall. They’re also an impressive 41-20-2 against the spread in their last 63 non-conference games and are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
OUR PREDICTION: After a promising start to their season, the Utes lost three of their last four games, including an embarrassing home loss to a dreadful Oregon team and a four-point defeat at Colorado. How fired up is Utah to play in this bowl game against a 6-6 Indiana team in the middle of the week? The Hoosiers have been known for their ability to score over the last few years, but their defense showed the biggest improvement. After finishing 112th in the nation in total defense last year, they ranked 41st in the country this year, and 57th in scoring defense (a significant improvement from 117th). The Utes have a great bowl record under coach Kyle Whittingham (9-1), but I like the Hoosiers to stay within a touchdown tonight.
