No. 11 Notre Dame hopes to avoid an upset loss at home when it welcomes Texas to town on Saturday at 7:30PM ET.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Notre Dame is the favorite at home in this contest, as the Fighting Irish are getting odds of -10 points against the Longhorns. The over/under total for this game has been set at 50.5 points. These two last met in 1996 with Notre Dame picking up a 27-24 road victory.
Notre Dame was 8-5 last season and the Fighting Irish were 6-7 against the spread while going 8-5 with the over. ND comes into this game having hit the over in six straight games. Brian Kelly is entering his sixth season as head coach of Notre Dame. He is 45-20 in five years, but has seen a decline in wins the last two years. Everett Golson elected to transfer to Florida State after last season which puts Malik Zaire in the clear starting quarterback position. Zaire played in ND’s bowl win over LSU and had 266 yards with one touchdown on the season.
Texas is coming off a 6-7 record in 2014. The Longhorns were 5-4 in the Big 12 while going 7-6 against the spread and 9-4 with the under. Texas comes into this game 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 road games. Charlie Strong is entering his second season as coach of the Longhorns after the 6-7 debut. Tyrone Swoopes is getting the start at quarterback. He threw for 2,409 yards last year with 13 touchdowns, but he also had 11 interceptions, which needs to drop down.
