PULLMAN, WA (ATS CONSULTANTS) – Week 1 of the college football season kicks off tonight and bettors might be treated to a potential blowout in Pullman.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Washington State is a 7.5-point favorite over Rutgers, while the over/under for tonight’s 10:00PM ET start time is currently sitting at 61 points. The Cougars opened as 8-point favorites but the line was bet down to 7.5 while the total opened at 60 and has been bet up to 61.
Rutgers was picked to finish last in the seven-team East Division by writers as the team heads into its first season in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights will have to lean heavily on running back Paul James, who rushed for 881 yards and nine touchdowns a year ago. The team will also have a new offensive coordinator in Ralph Friedgen, who has been unemployed over the past three years. He’ll have to coach up quarterback Gary Nova, who threw 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season.
Washington State enters the season after being selected to finish fifth in the Pac-12 in the six-team North Division. Quarterback Connor Halliday returns after breaking a school record a year ago while throwing for 4,597 yards in 2013, which is the second-most in Pac-12 history. Unfortunately Halliday will need to throw a bunch again this year, as WSU’s defense will once again be a weakness.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 1 FREE PICK: Take Washington State. Even though the Cougars will struggle defensively this year, the Scarlet Knights don’t have enough firepower to match up with Halliday and the WSU offense. Rutgers is 2-5 against the spread in its last seven games and 2-5 ATS in its last seven non-conference games, while the Cougars are 3-1-1 against the number in their last five non-conference games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
