According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel is the favorite to win the trophy once again, as he has odds of +300 to win going into the offeseaon. Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller (+1000) and Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray (+1000) are the other top favorites.
Manziel will be a redshirt sophomore entering the season, but managed to win the 2012 Heisman Trophy after an incredible first season with the Aggies. Manziel threw for 3,706 yards and 26 touchdowns this season while also rushing for 1,410 yards and 21 touchdowns. Manziel is looking to become just the second player in NCAA history to win the Heisman Trophy two times.
Miller, who was a sophomore this past season, may have been more of a Heisman contender in 2012 had Ohio State not been dealing with NCAA sanctions. Miller was as good as anyone, as he threw for 2,039 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 1,271 yards and 13 touchdowns. Both stats were great improvements from his freshman season and he seems to perfectly fit Urban Meyerβs offense.
Murray opted to comeback to school for his senior season at Georgia despite having the potential to go to the NFL and be one of the top quarterback prospects in the Draft. Murray threw for 3,893 yards and 36 touchdowns this season. It was his best season yet with Georgia, as he threw for a career-high in yards and touchdown passes. He has had at least 3,000 yards passing in each of his first three seasons with Georgia.
