Michigan went 6-2 in the Big Ten this season under first-year coach Brady Hoke. The Wolverines closed the season on a three-game winning streak, including a 40-34 win over rival Ohio State. This season Michigan averaged 34.2 points per game, which is no surprise. But, where the Wolverines did surprise people was on defense, allowing just 17.2 points per game, which ranks sixth in the country. Speedy quarterback Denard Robinson rushed for 1,163 yards and 16 TDβs this season while throwing for 2,056 yards and 18 TDβs, leading the team in both stats.
Virginia Tech went 7-1 in the ACC, losing to Clemson twice this year, including the conference championship game. The Hokies averaged 28.5 points per game on offense while ranking seventh in the country in defensive scoring, allowing just 17.2 points per game. Virginia Tech has been led by running back David Wilson, who rushed for 1,627 yards and 9 TDβs.
In terms of Injuries, Michigan defensive end Will Heininger is doubtful to play because of a foot injury while Virginia Tech kickers Tyler Weiss and Cody Journell will not play in the game due to disciplinary reasons.
