According to oddsmakers from Bodog, Alabama has 13/2 odds to win the 2011 BCS National Title. The Tide also have 3/2 odds to win the SEC and 2/3 odds to win the SEC West. The over/under for wins on the season has been set at 10.
Alabama is coming off a 10-3 season in 2010 where it finished behind Auburn in the SEC West. The Tide was 5-3 in conference play, suffering losses to South Carolina, LSU, and Auburn. The losses to LSU and Auburn were by a combined four points. In franchise history, Alabama has won 13 national championships and 22 SEC titles.
For 2011, Alabama returns 19 starters altogether, led by powerful running back Trent Richardson. Richardson will be the primary back this season after splitting carries with Mark Ingram last season. Richardson rushed for 700 yards and six touchdowns in 2010, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Richardson is the lone member of the team with odds to win the Heisman, as he has 12/1 odds to win the trophy this year. Alabama will be replacing key positions like quarterback and receiver, but return the majority of the offensive line. Defensively, Alabama held opponents to just 13.5 points and 286 total yards in 2010, and brings back 10 starters from that unit.
In terms of wins, Alabama has won at least 10 games the last three seasons and done so in three of the four years under coach Nick Saban. Alabama doesn’t have too tough of a non-conference schedule, with games against Kent State, North Texas, and Georgia Southern. The lone test comes at Penn State in the second week of the season. In SEC play, Alabama has road trips to Florida but gets LSU and Arkansas at home.
