SHREVEPORT, LA (TheSpread) – Georgia Tech looks to avoid a losing season on Monday when it takes on Air Force in the 2010 Independence Bowl at 5PM ET.
Georgia Tech is 6-6 on the season and 5-5-1 against the point spread odds while Air Force is 8-4 overall and just 4-7 against the point spread odds. Opening odds had Air Force favored by 2.5 points. The spread has since climbed up to 3 points. The over/under total opened at 56 points and moved up to 57 before returning back to 56 to close.
Georgia Tech los four of their last five games of the regular season, giving up at least 27 points in each loss. The Yellowjackets had high hopes entering the season, but a disappointing defense that has given up 26.2 points per game has given Georgia Tech a setback. The offense still averages 27.6 points per game but quarterback Josh Nesbitt has thrown for just 674 yards with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while rushing for 737 yards and 10 scores.
Air Force won its last three games of the regular season to get to 8-4 overall. The Falcons scored at least 35 points in their last four victories as they average 32.3 points per game on offense and allow just 22.3 points per game on defense. The Falcons have a strong rushing attack that averages 317.9 yards per game on the ground. Asher Clark leads the team with 1,007 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns.
In terms of injuries, Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt is doubtful to play because of an arm injury, which will put Tevin Washington in the game. Air Force defensive lineman Zach Payne is doubtful with a knee injury.
