ORLANDO, FL (TheSpread) – No. 22 West Virginia may be playing its final game under head coach Bill Stewart when the Mountaineers take on N.C. State in the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl.

West Virginia is 9-3 on the season and 7-4 against the point spread odds while N.C. State is 8-4 overall and 8-3 against the point spread odds. Trends show that West Virginia is 0-4 against the point spread odds in their last 4 bowl games as a favorite while N.C. State is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four bowl games.

Despite a 9-3 season, West Virginia hired Oklahoma State’s Dan Holgorsen to succeed Bill Stewart in 2012 without Stewart having knowledge of the situation. Some reports say Stewart may step down following the bowl game. The Mountaineers won their last four games of the season but still came up short of winning the Big East. The Mountaineers have been tough on defense, allowing just 12.8 points and 251.3 yards per game. Offensively, WVU posts 26.7 and 367.6 yards per game. Leading the team is quarterback Geno Smith, who has thrown for 2,567 yards and 23 touchdowns with just six interceptions.

N.C. State dropped four of their final eight games after a 4-0 start to the year. The Wolfpack have been a tough offense to stop, as they average 32.6 points and 406.7 yards per game. On defense, the Wolfpack allow 340.5 yards and 22.5 points per game. The team has been led by quarterback Russell Wilson, who has thrown for 3,288 yards and 26 touchdowns with 14 interceptions.

In terms of injuries, N.C. State kicker Josh Czajkowski is out with a hamstring injury while WVU linebacker Donovan Miles is out with a head injury.

Over 33,000 public bets have been placed on this game with West Virginia getting 59% of the wagers with odds of -3 against N.C. State.
