Ducks can cover the 34-Point Spread
A new quarterback for No. 11 Oregon shouldn’t slow down the Ducks offense as they open the season with New Mexico at 3:30PM ET.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com currently list Oregon as 34-point favorites at home against New Mexico. The over/under for the game has been set at 55.
Oregon went 7-6 against the spread in 2009 while hitting the over in 9 of 13 games. The Ducks are 2-0 in the last two seasons and 4-1 ATS since 1992 in games where they are favored by 31 points or more. The Ducks are also 11-6 ATS the last two seasons in games on turf.
New Mexico was 5-7 against the spread in 2009 while splitting the over/under an even 6-6. The Lobos are 2-0 ATS as 31-point or more underdogs since 1992 but the Lobos are 24-33 ATS in non-conference contests since 1992 and 5-7 ATS in road games over the last two seasons.
This spread is tough to take for the Ducks, but the numbers still favor Oregon. The Ducks have an explosive offense and are playing at home while the Lobos gave up nearly 420 yards per-game in 2009. The Lobos lost three times in 2009 by 34 points, two of those games came on the road and two were in non-conference play. Look for Oregon to rack up at least 250 yards on the ground while covering and hitting the over in an offensive explosion.
