Armed Forces Bowl Odds
DALLAS, TX (TheSpread) – SMU isn’t playing too far from home on Thursday when it takes on Army in the 2010 Armed Forces Bowl.
SMU is 7-6 on the season and 6-7 against the point spread odds while Army is 6-6 on the year and 5-6 against the spread. Trends show that Army is 4-1 against the point spread odds in their last 5 against Conference USA opponents while SMU is 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 games as a favorite.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com have given SMU point spread odds of -7 against Army on Thursday. The over/under total has been set at 51.5. (View Matchup)
Opening odds had SMU favored by 8 points. The spread has since dropped back a point to 7. The over/under total opened at 52 points and held strong most of the time until falling to 51.5 late this week.
SMU came up just short of winning the Conference USA title, as it lost 17-7 to Central Florida in the championship game. The Mustangs have been strong under coach June Jones as they average 414.7 yards and 26.6 points per game. However, the defense allows 26.4 points and 362.4 yards per game. SMU has a solid passing attack that posts 273.8 yards per game. The team is led by quarterback Kyle Padron, who has thrown for 3,526 yards and 29 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He also has rushed for 254 yards and four scores.
Army lost three of their last four games to end the regular season, all of which came by at least 14 points. The Knights have been stronger on defense than they have on offense as they average 27.5 points per game and allow 25.2. Army has relied on its rushing attack, which averages 256 yards per game. Four different players have over 300 yards rushing on the season. Leading the way is Jared Hassin, who has rushed for 931 yards and nine scores. Quarterback Trent Steelman has added 965 passing yards with seven scores and 694 rushing yards and 11 scores.
In terms of injuries, Army linebacker Nate Combs is questionable to play because of a knee injury while SMU receiver Cole Loftin is questionable with a knee injury as well.
Over 29,100 public bets have been placed on this game with SMU getting 78% of the wagers with point spread odds of -7 against Army.
