Oklahoma vs. Houston Week 1 Pick
One of the best matchups on the Week 1 college football schedule has Oklahoma and Houston meeting at NRG Stadium at 12:00PM ET on Saturday.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Sooners are now 12.5-point favorites to beat the Cougars after the line opened at Oklahoma -10. The total has also moved slightly off its original number, dropping down to 67.5 after oddsmakers set the line at 68 when this game was first posted.
Oklahoma was one of the best bets in college football last season, finishing with a 9-4 record against the spread. As a favorite, the Sooners were 8-4 at the betting window and covered by a +6.6 margin in all games last season. In non-conference games, Bob Stoops' team finished with a 2-2 ATS record and as an away favorite, the Sooners were a perfect 4-0 at the betting window.
Houston was equally impressive against the number last season, covering in nine of its 14 games on the season. The Cougars covered by a +9.4 margin so they didn't make bettors sweat too often when it came to covering games. As an underdog, Tom Herman's squad was 3-0 against the spread last season and as an away underdog, they were 1-0 ATS, covering by a +16.5-point margin.
OUR EARLY PICK: This game should fall under for bettors. The under is 5-1 in the Sooners' last six non-conference games and has cashed in five of Oklahoma's last seven contests played at a neutral site. The under is also 5-2 in the Cougars' last seven games overall and is 7-3-1 in their last 11 games in September. Despite the firepower that Baker Mayfield and Greg Ward Jr. bring to the table in this matchup, this will be more of a defensive struggle than the high point total suggests.
