PITTSBURGH (AP) – Duquesne University basketball coach Ron Everhart is expected to remain hospitalized until Friday after having a small portion of his colon removed.
The 45-year-old Everhart was bothered last season by diverticulitis, a digestive disorder in which small growths in the colon can become painful when inflamed. The problem forced Everhart to miss a victory at Boston College in December.
“I feel great,” Everhart said Tuesday, a day after having the procedure.
The previously scheduled laparoscopic surgery came a week after Duquesne forward Stuard Baldonado was twice arrested on drug-related charges in Pittsburgh. A year ago this month, Baldonado was one of five Duquesne players shot following an on-campus social event.
