Will Aztecs stay hot vs. Huskies?
After earning six straight NCAA tournament berths, San Diego State failed to secure an invite to this year’s Big Dance.
Judging by its preliminary NIT outing, though, Steve Fisher’s rock-solid program is doing anything but moping around. The Aztecs (26-9) steamrolled IPFW to set up an 11:30 p.m. ET tip tonight vs. the Huskies.
Oddsmakers certainly took note of last Tuesday’s 79-55 thrashing. Online sports book Bovada.lv lists SDSU as a 6-point favorite at Viejas Arena, with the over/under total set at 149.
The last time these schools clashed, the rims wailed in agony. Washington defeated then-No. 13 San Diego State 49-36 on Dec. 7, 2014. Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar masterfully mixed man-to-man schemes with a 2-3 zone to stifle Fisher’s crew.
That was long before Winston Shepherd’s breakout senior season. Coming off the first triple-double in SDSU history, the forward’s well-prepared to post another mammoth stat line. Washington (19-14) would also be wise to concentrate on sophomore guard Trey Kell, who has reached double figures in 20 of the past 22 contests.

Romar will have his players ready to go, but two of the veteran leader’s most gifted performers – Dejounte Murray and Marquese Chriss – are freshmen. The rollicking road atmosphere is bound to cause problems, namely hurried shots and a disjointed flow.
MONDAY NCAA FREE PICK: WASHINGTON/SAN DIEGO STATE UNDER 149 POINTS
