The 6-foot-7, 218-pound sophomore from Kaduna, Nigeria, collapsed in the Volunteers’ weight room Monday afternoon and was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Negedu was without a pulse and team trainers Chad Newman and Jason McVeigh revived him with a defibrillator within minutes. Tennessee officials would not confirm that Negedu’s heart had stopped beating, though coach Bruce Pearl was thankful the incident didn’t happen away from UT and medical staff.
Negedu was alert when an ambulance arrived.
