Red Raiders solve Spartans
Texas Tech took down Michigan State Saturday night in the Final Four by a count of 61-51 to advance to its first national championship game in program history. The Red Raiders (31-6) outscored the Spartans 38-30 in the second half to put it away after leading by only two at halftime. Texas Tech shot 22-of-51 from the floor, 9-of-23 from the field, and 8-of-13 at the free throw line. Matt Mooney paced the Red Raiders with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 4-of-8 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-2 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down three rebounds. Jarrett Culver added 10 points along with five boards and two assists.
Cavs advance in controversial thriller
Virginia defeated Auburn 63-62 Saturday in the NCAA Tournament semifinals as Kyle Guy drained three free throws with under a second remaining after being fouled on a 3-point attempt. The Cavaliers (34-3) outscored the Tigers 35-31 in the second half after trailing by three at halftime. Virginia shot 25-of-51 from the floor, 7-of-19 from 3-point distance plus 6-of-12 at the free throw line. Ty Jerome led the Cavaliers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 4-of-9 from 3-point range plus 1-of-3 at the free throw line. He also accounted for nine rebounds and six assists. Guy contributed 15 points, four assists and three boards. De’Andre Hunter added 14 points, five caroms, two assists and two blocked shots.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are 4-0 ATS in their last four Monday games. Texas Tech is 14-3 ATS in its last 17 games overall.
Virginia
The Cavaliers are 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 Monday games. Virginia is 18-8 ATS in its last 26 non-conference games.
Prediction:
Both of these squads set the tone with their defense, although Texas Tech is the clear best defensive team in the nation this season. But the Red Raiders are not quite as strong offensively and while that hasn’t been a problem so far, it could be a major issue against a Virginia squad that is amongst the smartest in the nation on both ends of the floor. Virginia is on a mission to make people forget about losing to a 16th seed. Winning the national title tonight would be as good of a capper as you could have. As long as Jerome doesn’t get in foul trouble again tonight, the Cavs should be in good shape here as they have the shooters to solve the Red Raiders defense.
