Michigan State Spartans Game Notes
Tyson Walker provided four points (2-5 FG), one rebound and eight assists across 25 minutes during Saturday’s 64-62 loss to Northwestern. It’s worth noting that Walker asked to be removed from a Jan. 12 contest against Minnesota due to an ankle injury (per Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal), but he appeared closer to his regular minutes workload here. Walker has served as the de-facto starting point guard for the Spartans and has multiple double-digit assist games, but A.J. Hoggard still sees plenty of run as well. In any case, the Northeastern transfer will get nearly a week on the sidelines before heading to Madison for an all-important conference matchup with the Badgers.
Wisconsin Badgers Game Notes
Johnny Davis posted 27 points (8-15 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 7-10 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and three steals in 38 minutes during Tuesday’s 82-76 win over Northwestern. Davis was on a run from Dec. 4 through Jan. 6 in which he averaged a scorching 25.8 ppg, but cooled off a bit afterwards with performances of 19 and 14 points. He got back on track Tuesday in what was his third-highest scoring output of the season, bringing his average to 22.1 ppg — good for fifth in the nation. The timing of his baskets was also pristine, as he was able to answer with a bucket each time Northwestern appeared to be gearing up to make a run. The All-American candidate next draws a stiff test when the Badgers host Michigan State on Friday night.
