Epic shootout between Sooners, Cyclones?
Having thrilled the Norman faithful all year, OU superstar Buddy Hield tries his hand at drawing oohs and aahs from the Kansas City crowd tonight.
Online sports book Bovada.lv likes the Sooners as 4.5-point favorites entering their now-inevitable Big 12 tournament meeting with the Cyclones. This marks the third Oklahoma-Iowa State clash in postseason competition since 2013, with Lou Kruger’s bunch still seeking that breakthrough on the Sprint Center stage.
If it doesn’t happen in a few hours, one wonders if it ever will. The Sooners rank second nationally in three-point percentage (43.0) and have converted at least 10 treys in 20 games. The fingerprints of Hield, the second-leading scorer in the country, coat each and every one of those affairs.
Iowa State, however, is not a team with which to trifle – especially in March. The Cyclones are furiously pursuing their third consecutive conference tourney crown. Six different players average double figures, with senior forward Giorges Nieng leading the way.
Oklahoma wants nothing more than to repeat its successful formula from Jan. 2, when ISU ultimately fell just short. Hield had 22 of the Sooners’ staggering 87 points that afternoon. On the season, the country’s No. 6 squad sits at 14-1 when scoring at least 80 points.
