Iowa shoots past Cincinnati
Iowa shoed it could shoot past a good defense on Friday when it beat Cincinnati 79-72 to start its NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes have won and covered in two of their last three, but are just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10. Iowa is now 23-11 on the season, 5-1 on a neutral court, 14-20 against the spread and 17-17 with the over/under total.
The Hawkeyes are one of the better offensive teams in the country, averaging 78.3 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor. Defensively, Iowa is giving up 73.6 points per game while opponents shoot 44.8 percent against them. On Friday, Iowa was 11 of 22 from the arc in the win over Cincinnati. Joe Wieskamp led the way with four, as he had 19 points. Luka Garza was the leading scorer with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Tennessee holds off Colgate
Tennessee got a tough challenge from 15-seeded Colgate on Friday, but the Vols still managed a 77-70 win. Tennessee has won six of its last eight, but has failed to cover in two straight. The Vols are 30-5 overall, 5-2 on a neutral floor, 17-16-1 against the spread and 20-14 with the over.
The Volunteers are putting up 81.7 points per game this season, which ranks 21st nationally. They also shoot 49.6 percent as a team, which ranks sixth in the country. Defensively, Tennessee is giving up 68.7 points per game while opponents shoot 40 percent against them. In Friday’s win, Tennessee gave up 15 3-pointers to Colgate, but survived. College Basketball Betting Trends
Iowa
The Hawkeyes are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven against SEC opponents and 0-5 ATS in their last five following a win.
Tennessee
Tennessee is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games against Big Ten opponents and 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games.
Prediction:
Tennessee was fortunate to get a win on Friday since Colgate was able to knock down so many triples. That could be a problem today, as the Hawkeyes can shoot well from the arc, as they showed against Cincinnati. Tennessee certainly has the better talent, but the Vols will have to play better today if they hope to cover. I think Iowa has nothing to lose in this one, so I will take the points and expect them to knock down some more deep shots to keep this competitive.
