Creighton Bluejays
The Bluejays took down defending national champ UConn on Saturday night in the semifinals 71-62. Jasen Green led the team with 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Jamiya Neal matched him with 19 points of his own. Ryan Kalkbrenner finished with a modest 12 points. Creighton only committed 9 fouls in the game, and UConn only shot 4 total free throws. The Bluejays shot 52% from the field. On Thursday, Creighton edged out DePaul 85-81 in double overtime in the quarterfinals.
St. John’s Red Storm
The Johnnies easily advanced to the finals, with a 78-57 victory over Butler on Thursday, and on Friday defeating Marquette 79-63 in the semifinals. These two squads met twice this season, with the first matchup on New Years Eve at Creighton ending 57-56, and the St. John’s home game ended 79-73. This is essentially a St. John’s home game. The Red Storm average 78 ppg this season but at home they get a bump up to 81. They haven’t scored less than 70 points since early February and have scored 79 and 78 points in the first two games of the tournament. The Bluejays are averaging 75.5 points per game this season.
