Tonight’s 9-game slate features a few heavy favorites and some intriguing divisional battles. Teams like the Detroit Pistons (42-14) and Oklahoma City Thunder (45-14) lead their conferences and are vying for seeding advantages down the stretch. Meanwhile, squads like the Brooklyn Nets (15-42) continue to tank, creating potential mismatches for bettors. Continue reading for our NBA Best Bets March 3 column for our betting selections for tonight.
NBA Best Bets: Pistons -2.5 (at Cavs), 7:00 p.m. ET
The Detroit Pistons (42-14) have quietly become one of the league’s best and most balanced teams, with elite defense and multiple 20+ point scoring threats. Despite opponent swings, Detroit has been dominant at both ends of the floor in March, and this matchup against Cleveland — a solid but inconsistent Cavs club — feels like a spot to back the Pistons to cover the small spread.
Detroit is playing with pace and strength, and their defense excels at frustrating middle-tier offenses. Cleveland’s scoring tends to be feast-or-famine, and on the road in a building where Detroit paces the pace, this game could get out of hand. The +1.5 is thin, but the Pistons’ recent consistency makes this cover a sensible bet here.
NBA Best Bet: Magic -16 (vs. Wizards), 7:00 p.m. ET
Orlando Magic (31-26) have surged with a reliable offensive identity and serviceable defense. The matchup with the Washington Wizards (16-41) is one of the more lopsided of the night. Miami has been middling, but Orlando’s offensive efficiency vs. Washington’s porous defense gives them a huge edge here.
The Wizards’ 16 wins this season have come primarily against other rebuilding teams, and their ability to contain structured playoff-caliber offense has been limited. Orlando’s discipline on both ends should produce a big margin of victory, justifying backing them to cover the large spread.
NBA Best Bets: Lakers -8.5 (vs. Pelicans), 10:30 p.m. ET
The Lakers (34-23) remain a tough out in the Western Conference with a strong defensive frame and good road poise. Tonight’s matchup against the Pelicans (17-42) presents a classic favorite-bullyspot — Los Angeles is efficient on offense and can clamp down as needed, while New Orleans continues to struggle on that side of the ball.
The Pelicans have shown flashes but lack consistency and reliable scoring depth. Lakers’ two-way wings such as LeBron James and Anthony Davis continue to influence both ends, making a comfortable cover likely. The Pelicans’ defensive rating is one of the league’s worst, and that should play into the Lakers’ hands.
Tuesday NBA Best Bet March 3
- Detroit Pistons -2.5
- Orlando Magic -16
- Los Angeles Lakers -8.5
