Mavs had concerns about Doncic
Dallas had “major concerns” about Luka Doncic being there long-term due to his “constant conditioning issues and the looming commitment of another supermax contract extension this summer,” per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. Marc Stein reported that the Mavs and Luka were “heading toward” a five-year, $345 million extension in July, but that goes out the window with this trade. Doncic is still eligible for an extension with the Lakers this summer, and it would be surprising if they didn’t work to keep him around long-term. There have been plenty of questions about Doncic’s weight over the past few seasons, but it hasn’t impacted his play on the court. Luka’s presence on the court will certainly lighten the workload for LeBron James, which should help keep him fresh for the postseason.
Leonard scores 17 points vs. Raptors
Kawhi Leonard scored 17 points in Sunday’s loss to the Raptors, adding six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a three-pointer. Leonard shot a pitiful 6-of-18 from the floor, and his peripheral contributions weren’t anything to write home about. Though this performance wasn’t phenomenal, it marked Leonard’s sixth straight appearance. His availability is of utmost importance to fantasy managers, who are surely happy to see him out on the court.
Lakers vs. Clippers NBA Prediction:
Take the Lakers. While banged up, the Lakers have played well of late. They won’t have Doncic (calf) and obviously Davis is no longer with the team. LeBron is also dealing with a foot injury and is day-to-day, but the Lakers have still won eight out of their last 10 games overall. The Lakers are also 6-3-1 against the spread over that span.
