According to the latest oddsmakers, the Bulls are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -5 points against the Hornets. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 211 points. Hornets trying to heat up
Charlotte went into the break having picked up back-to-back wins at Detroit and Minnesota. That ended a five-game losing streak. The Hornets are 18-36 on the season, 10-19 on the road, 26-28 against the spread and 27-27 with the over/under total.
The Hornets have the league’s worst offense, averaging just 102.9 points per game this season while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. Defensively, Charlotte is giving up 110.2 points per game while opponents shoot 47.6 percent against them. Devonte’ Graham is leading the team with 18.1 points and 7.8 assists per game. Terry Rozier is adding 17.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.
Bulls on a big slide
Chicago is coming off a 126-114 loss at Washington before the break and the Bulls have lost their last five games while going 1-5 against the spread. Chicago is 19-36 on the season, 11-16 at home, 24-30-1 against the spread and 30-25 with the over.
The Bulls are putting up 106.4 points per game on offense this season while shooting 44.2 percent from the field. Defensively, Chicago is allowing 109.5 points per game while opponents shoot 47.5 percent against them. Chicago still has a litany of injuries to deal with. Otto Porter Jr., Wendell Carter Jr., Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen all remain out right now. Three of them are in the top four in scoring for the team. Zach LaVine is leading the way with 25.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Charlotte
The Hornets are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games as an underdog, but 5-1 ATS in their last six road games against a team with a losing home record.
Chicago
The Bulls are 17-38 against the spread in their last 55 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as a favorite.
Prediction:
The Hornets have won two of three from Chicago this season, including a win in Chicago back on Dec. 13. The Hornets have covered the spread in five straight against the Bulls. I think I will side with the trend to continue today. The Hornets aren’t a good team, but they are healthy and have some balanced scoring. The Bulls are relying heavily on LaVine, who hasn’t shown he can single-handedly guide a team to sustained success. Its possible that the Bulls can win at home tonight, but I think the game will come down to the wire. I will take the Hornets with the points in what should be a close contest.
