(TheSpread) – The San Antonio Spurs may be the top seed, but they are struggling as the playoffs begin. Can the Spurs get it together to get past Memphis in the first round?
The Spurs are the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference with a 61-21 record while the Grizzlies are the No. 8 seed with a 46-36 mark.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com the Spurs are a slight favorite to win the series with odds of -400 while Memphis has odds of +300.
San Antonio won the Southwest Division with its 61-21 record. The Spurs were 36-5 at home, which was the best home record in the NBA. San Antonio was also 25-16 on the road and 38-14 in conference games. San Antonio lost 6 of its last 10 games entering the playoffs.
Memphis finished fourth in the Southwest with the 46-36 record. The Grizzlies were 30-11 at home but just 16-25 on the road. Memphis was 30-22 against Western Conference opponents and it won 6 of its last 10 games to end the season.
Thee two teams faced off four times this year and split the series. San Antonio won the first two games while Memphis won the last two. The Grizzlies actually had a +10 scoring edge in the four games against the Spurs.
Trends show that Memphis has covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games in San Antonio and in 11 of their last 12 games against division opponents.
In terms of injuries, San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili is not expected to play in the series opener with an elbow injury while Memphis guard Jason Williams is out for the playoffs with a back injury.
