Dale Jr. wins in Phoenix
Rain was an issue all day for NASCAR and it eventually decided who emerged the winner of the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500.
The race was delayed in start by nearly six hours and then ended about 100 laps shy of its scheduled run time due to another rain storm. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the lucky winner thanks to a race on pit road, edging Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano for the win.
According to oddsmakers, Earnhardt Jr. had 20/1 odds to win Sunday’s race, which means that a $100 wager on him to prevail will pay out an additional $2,000.
Beyond the race, the bigger news is that NASCAR has its four drivers that will advance to next week’s championship race. Jeff Gordon advanced with his win a few weeks ago and he joins Harvick, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. for the final spots. Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch and Joey Logano failed to make the cut this time around.
