Newman wins the pole
Ryan Newman will start up front for Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600 from Charlotte Motor Speedway after winning the pole on Thursday.
Even though he isn’t up front, Jimmie Johnson is still the favorite to win the race.
Johnson has been given 3/1 odds to win the race according to odds makers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win are Kyle Busch (6/1), Denny Hamlin (8/1), Kurt Busch (8/1), and Jeff Gordon (8/1).
Johnson won this event from 2003-05. He also finished second in 2006, but has not finished inside of 10th the last three years. At this track, Johnson has an average finish of 8.6 and a driver rating of 118.9, which ranks tops in the series. Johnson is currently fourth in the season standings, 131 points behind leader, Kevin Harvick. Johnson hasn’t finished better than 10th in his last five races. He has three wins on the year. For Sunday, Johnson will start in the fifth position.
