Will STL contend with Fowler?
The St. Louis Cardinals added a nice piece to their lineup last week when they signed Dexter Fowler. Is he going to make a big boost in their World Series odds?
The former Chicago Cub reached an agreement on a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Cardinals on Friday, joining the division rival.
“You get a taste of winning a World Series and you want to do that again,” Fowler said of joining the Cardinals during a press conference. “You’re excited and you want to get back and win the World Series. With the Cardinals, they’re always in the hunt. That was a big part of my decision.”
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Cardinals are now listed with +2500 odds to win the World Series in 2017. They join the Mariners and Rangers with 25/1 odds. Fowler’s old team, the Cubs, remain the favorite at +375 to repeat.
Fowler, a center fielder, has been in the majors since 2008 and has put up some impressive numbers during his career. Last season he played in 125 games for the Cubs and hit .276 with 13 home runs, 25 doubles, 48 RBI, 84 runs and 13 stolen bases.
