Cardinals’ Mikolas pitches seven scoreless innings in win

Miles Mikolas blanked the Cubs for seven innings on Friday to improve to 4-0 this year. Some teams have to be kicking themselves for not bettering the Cardinals’ two-year, $15.5 million offer to Mikolas after all of the success he experienced in Japan. He has a 2.70 ERA at the moment, and the stuff is there to make him a pretty good bet going forward.

Padres’ Lyles to start Thursday vs. Cardinals

Jordan Lyles will start on Thursday against the Cardinals. He’s taking the rotation spot of Bryan Mitchell, who has been demoted to the bullpen. Lyles has been solid in relief this season with a 3.66 ERA and 16/7 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings, but the 27-year-old holds a career 5.32 ERA over 107 starts at the major league level. His leash will be short.

MLB Betting Trends

St. Louis

The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six games in San Diego and have won 10 of their last 13 games versus the Padres overall.

San Diego

The under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams.

Prediction:

The Padres have been bad in series meetings with the Cardinals and are just 1-6 in their last seven games coming off a win. They’re also 3-12 in their last 15 home games versus a right-handed starter and are 8-21 in their last 29 games versus a right-handed starter, too. On the side, the Cardinals are winless at 0-4 in their last four road games but are 5-2 in their last seven games overall and Mikolas has been great for them.

The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -135
