Bryce Harper is making his first career start at first base in Friday’s game against the Guardians. With Harper at first, Kyle Schwarber is DHing tonight. As long as Harper proves fine physically, this will probably be the most common arrangement for the Phillies the rest of the way. Jake Cave and Johan Rojas will cover for Schwarber in the outfield for now, but the team will probably look for an inexpensive upgrade before the deadline. Darick Hall, who had been playing a lot of first base, has been sent down to Triple-A, making room for Cave.

José Ramírez singled four times in five at-bats and stole two bases Friday in the Guardians’ 6-5 win over the Phillies. It’s the first four-hit game of the season for Ramírez. He had been slumping a bit this month, at least in the power department. Even after tonight, he still has just two RBI in 16 games during July.

Wheeler was plagued by the long ball in his last start, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings in the team’s extra innings victory over the Padres. That said, his ERA is a solid 4.04 on the season and while he hasn’t been completely lights out, he’s been steady nonetheless. On the other side, the Tanner Bibee wasn’t involved in the decision after allowing two runs in six innings last Sunday against the Rangers. In his last five starts, he’s allowed eight runs – seven earned – in 27 2/3 innings during that span. He’s 5-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts, so this should be a solid pitching matchup today at Progressive Field. Give me the under.
