From Rotoworld: Scherzer (neck) held the Marlins to two runs over seven innings Monday in a no-decision. Scherzer was pulled from his last start because of a neck spasm, but he looked close to 100 percent on Monday night at Nationals Park, striking out nine batters over seven solid frames and even lopping a single up the middle to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Washington didn’t grab the lead for good until the bottom of the eighth, with the win going to deadline-acquisition Brandon Kintzler. Scherzer will bring a 12-5 record, 2.23 ERA, and 0.85 WHIP into his next start at home against the last-place Giants. The ace right-hander has 210 strikeouts in 153 1/3 innings this season.
Moore gave up five runs in six innings Monday in a loss to the Cubs. If the Giants were in the running for a postseason spot, they might have replaced Moore a month ago. They certainly would by now. As is, though, it makes more sense to stick with him and hope that something clicks. Still, this makes six straight starts in which he’s given up four or five runs. He’s 3-12 with a 5.88 ERA.
