Nationals vs. Mets Prediction
Will the Nationals beat the Mets tonight at 7:10PM ET behind Max Scherzer?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nationals are -154 money line favorites versus the Mets, who have odds of +125 to pull off the upset at home. With Scherzer set to face Steven Matz in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 7.5 runs, down from the original number of 8.
Latest from Rotoworld: Scherzer allowed one unearned run, three hits and two walks while striking out 14 batters over seven innings in a win Tuesday at the Dodgers. Scherzer threw 73 of his 105 pitches for strikes, recording double-digit strikeout totals for the third consecutive outing. He also has 11 or more strikeouts in five of his past seven starts dating back to May 4. Scherzer will look to keep it rolling in Sunday’s game against the Rangers.
Matz limited the Braves to one run over seven innings in his 2017 debut Saturday, leading the Mets to an 8-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader.Making his first start after an elbow injury cost him more than two months, Matz showed no ill effects. The southpaw scattered five hits and a walk, striking out two in the victory. Matz’s injury issues are likely always going to hover over his head, but he’s been very successful when on the mound in his major league career. The 26-year-old will make his next turn Thursday against the Nationals
OUR PREDICTION: The Nationals are 43-14 in their last 57 games versus the Mets in New York and have won six of their last eight games versus their divisional rivals overall. The Nats have also won 22 of Scherzer’s last 29 road starts, are 21-8 in his last 29 starts overall, and are 8-1 in his last nine road starts versus a team with a losing record. The Mets, meanwhile, are 1-4 in Matz’s last five home starts and have dropped four of his last five starts after allowing five runs or more in their previous game.
