Phillies vs. Mariners Prediction

Is the betting total in today’s Phillies and Mariners matchup set too high? First pitch is set for 3:40PM ET.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Mariners are -200 money line favorites versus the Phillies, who have odds of +170 to pull off the upset. With Mark Leiter set to face Felix Hernandez in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 9 runs.

Latest on Leiter via Rotoworld: Leiter notched a win in his first major league start by throwing six scoreless innings Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Leiter came into this one with a 4.74 ERA and a 12/14 K/BB ratio in 19 innings as a reliever. He did a great job tonight, but we’re skeptical of his ability to make it through major league lineups three times in a night.

In his return from the disabled list, Hernandez surrendered three runs and eight hits in six innings Friday against the Astros. Hernandez looked fine tonight and got himself a win in a 13-3 game, but this is about what should be expected from him these days. He gave up two homers tonight, bringing his total allowed to eight in just 32 2/3 innings. Until he puts a run of strong outings together, he should be treated as a spot starter in mixed leagues.

Bet Today’s Phillies vs. Mariners Game

OUR PREDICTION: The under has cashed in six of the last seven meetings between these two teams in Seattle. It is also 5-1-1 in the Phillies’ last seven road games versus a right-handed starter, is 5-1-1 in their last seven games versus a right-handed starter overall, and is 11-5-3 in their last 19 games overall. On the other side, the under is 7-3-1 in the Mariners’ last 11 home games versus a right-handed starter and 7-1 in their last eight games when their opponent allows two runs or less in its previous game.

WEDNESDAY MLB PREDICTION: PHILLIES/MARINERS UNDER 9
