Nationals vs. Cardinals Prediction
Will Max Scherzer out-duel Carlos Martinez tonight when the Cardinals host Nationals at 8:05PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Nationals are -129 money line favorites versus the Cardinals, who have odds of +119 to pull off the upset. With Scherzer set to face Martinez in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 7.5 runs.
From Rotoworld: Scherzer earned his ninth victory of the season on Tuesday, limiting the Cubs to one run on two hits over his six innings of work. The star right-hander struck out six and didn’t issue a free pass in the contest. He allowed an RBI triple to Kris Bryant in the first inning, but was lights-out afterwards, retiring 16 of the final 17 batters he faced. Scherzer sports an outstanding 2.06 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 151/24 K/BB ratio through 113 2/3 innings on the season.
Martinez surrendered two runs in six innings and struck out 10 in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Martinez has been blessed with an easy schedule this year, which has played a role in his 2.88 ERA. Still, he deserves far better than his current 6-6 record. Tonight’s quality start was his 12th in 16 starts this year.
OUR PREDICTION: The Nationals are 23-8 in Scherzer’s last 31 road starts, are 23-9 in his last 32 outings, and are 9-2 in his last 11 road outings versus a team with a losing record. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are 2-5 in their last seven home games versus a right-handed starter and are 1-5 in their last six games when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game.
